Déprescription BZD 65+
“Déprescription BZD 65+” is a large-scale quality improvement initiative implemented by Réseau Delta in the canton of Geneva and Vaud to reduce inappropriate benzodiazepine and Z-drug use among adults aged 65 years and older. The project aims to improve medication safety and patient value by reducing exposure to medicines associated with falls, fractures, cognitive impairment, dependence and avoidable hospitalizations.
The multimodal intervention combines interprofessional quality circles, prescription audit and feedback, data-driven benchmarking, digital tools for identifying potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs), standardized deprescribing tools, a 360° public awareness campaign, and systematic collection of Patient-Reported Outcome and Experience Measures (PROMs/PREMs). More than 1,900 patients registered, with 485 PROMs and 362 PREMs completed.
The project combines quantitative prescription and claims data with patient-reported outcomes and experiences to support Value-Based Healthcare in ambulatory care.
